How to Measure Your Dog's Paw Size | To Choose the Perfect Shoes for Your Beloved Dog

"How should I measure my dog's paw size?"
This is one of the most common questions we receive from owners considering dog shoes.

"Is it okay to just choose by dog breed?"
"Since it's a small dog, is this size fine?"
You might feel this way, but actually, dog paw sizes vary greatly among individuals, and the fit can change significantly even within the same breed.

That is why measuring the size correctly is the first step in choosing the right shoes for your dog.

Why Size Measurement is Important

If dog shoes do not fit properly, they cannot perform at their intended comfort.
If they are too large, they easily slip off, and if they are too small, they can cause discomfort. Even for humans, shoes that don't fit well can feel difficult to walk in. Similarly, for dogs, a good fit is an important point.

In addition, quite a few dogs have different sizes for their front and rear paws. Generally, front paws, which play a larger role in supporting body weight, tend to be slightly larger than rear paws.
Rather than judging just by visual impression, let's find a pair that can be worn more comfortably by actually measuring.

How to Measure Paw Size at Home

Here is an easy measurement method you can do at home.

STEP 1. Have them stand on paper

Place paper on a flat floor and have your dog stand on it with "all four paws on the ground".
At this time, the key is to measure while their weight is fully supported.

STEP 2. Mark the outline of the paw

Mark the outermost parts of the paw (tip of the paw and the widest part of the width) with a pen. Nails and hair are not included.
If tracing directly is difficult, it is also fine to simply mark the furthest protruding parts in front, back, left, and right.

STEP 3. Measure the size with a ruler

Measure the distance between the marks to check the "vertical length" and "width" of the paw.
Be sure to measure both the front and rear paws separately.

Points for Choosing a Size

Based on the measured values, choose by comparing them with the size chart of each product.

If you are unsure, we recommend basing your choice on the size closest to your measurements.

Also, regarding the Pawtect and Inutabi series, if you are unsure about the size, they are designed to fit more easily by choosing a slightly smaller size.

■ Common Precautions

• If your dog isn't relaxed, you may not get accurate measurements
• For dogs with thick coats, lightly smoothing the fur before measuring reduces errors
• For growing puppies, we recommend re-measuring regularly

Comfort in choosing dog shoes varies greatly depending on "size selection".
It might feel a little troublesome, but this extra effort leads to ease of wear for your beloved dog.

A pair that fits perfectly changes not only ease of walking, but also the quality of daily walk times.

Be sure to measure the size at home and enjoy choosing shoes that fit your dog.
